A fantastic opening at Icon Gallery
Thanks to all who were able to make to the opening of “[Outside] In” at the Icon White Gallery on Saturday, and for those who couldn’t, the show will continue until March 3, and then any remaining works will be part of a continuing subsequent exhibition. I’ve put together a short video tour of the Gallery, with photos of the works, go to this youtube link to take the tour…
[Outside] In: Solo show at Icon White Gallery
5 months in the making… “[Outside] In: Echoes of Our Primal Lands” is finally showing at the White Gallery at Icon Centre in the Upper Moutere, from Feb 7th to March 3, 2015. A series of metal and wood wall works, along with additional free-standing pieces, act as abstracted reflections of our native landscapes and surroundings.
Thanks to Seresin Estate Wines and Proper Crisps for sponsoring the wine and nibbles at the opening. We all had a fantastic time!
“Oil on Canvas” Exhibition in Blenheim, NZ
Come join me to support the Clean Energy Action network with the opening of the exhibit “Oil on Canvas”, where I have submitted the wall sculpture “TurningTide” to participate in the artist’s action towards a more sustainable energy future in New Zealand. The exhibition will be open from July 26th to August 3 2014 at the Yealands Marlborough Gallery in Blenheim, NZ, and all works are for sale to support the cause.
“5 Quarters of the Pacific” opening at the Icon ‘White” Gallery
Thanks to all for the successful opening of the “5 Quarters of the Pacific” collaborative show on June 28! I was honored to join 4 other venerable Marlborough-based artists on my first collaborative set of works. The opening event also celebrated the grand reveal of the new “white-wall” gallery at Icon, as well as individual works from each of the 5 participating artists. I presented 2 new freestanding pieces, which are some of my most accomplished works to date.
Recent news…
A couple of new sculptural works have recently been delivered to the Icon Gallery near Nelson NZ, as well as some recent sales to international collectors, with Jason’s works now in private collections as far ranging as the UK and the USA! Also, the Tillman Studios website has been updated with the Sculpture galleries now separated into “Wall Sculpture” and “Standing Sculpture”, as there were too many to all fit into one category. So have a look to find the new works, here are just a couple of the recent additions…

New representation at the Icon Gallery
I’m proud to announce that I’ve recently begun to show work at the new Icon Gallery and sculpture park in the beautiful Upper Moutere area near Nelson, NZ. Artist and visionary Neville Parker opened the Icon Centre for the Arts in the last year or so, and is steadily expanding the sprawling property to include working artist’s studios, new gallery space, and more outdoor display areas. It sounds like Neville has had tremendous success in the last year bringing in visitors from around the world, and sales and interest have exceeded expectations. Let’s hope it’s the start of something big. Come visit the gallery at 1280 Moutere Highway, open every day except Monday. Cheers Neville!
Jason’s work in “Homestyle NZ” magazine!
In the August/September 2012 issue of “Homestyle” magazine, the sculpture “Knots” was included in a feature spread of the Nelson house of clients Ned and Mina Smith, whose beautiful remodel overlooking the water is a perfect setting for the work. A mention of the piece is included on page 103: “Over the fire is an artwork called “Knots” by local sculptor Jason Hale Tillman, bought from the Refinery Gallery. It’s made of rusted metal with rope twisted into tree-like knots. “The beach has high and low tides and you get ripples in the sand. It reminded us of that” says Mina.”
Craftsman Range Additions…
2 new additions have been finished for the Craftsman Range… a Wine Cabinet, and a Wine Sideboard (hey, we ARE in Marlborough!)- a mix of white oak and maple, with leaded glass windows, etched bronze detailing, and all solid brass fittings- thanks to TH Barnes for the fine joinery and attention to detail. Currently for sale… but wine not included!
Art Expo Nelson
The first annual Art Expo Nelson was a huge success! Both for the organizers and for many of the 98 represented South Island artists involved… including myself. I sold a good number of works, and met heaps of great folks over the weekend- Gallerists, clients, “old” friends, and hopefully new ones. The stats aren’t in yet, but I would guess at least 2500 people walked through the doors over the weekend.
I even got a little mention in the Nelson Mail, in the run-up to the opening…check it out (without photo…)
